Corrigan, Matthew

A Traveler.  Matthew Corrigan was born in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1946. After an uneventful childhood he became an undergraduate at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. In his Junior year he began to experience blackouts and hallucinations. Misdiagnosed as an epileptic, he was given tranquilizers by a physician in the college's Health Services Center.

Matthew Corrigan eventually dropped out of college for medical reasons. He had no knowledge of his Traveler heritage until a conversation with his cousin, Barbara Corrigan who told him that his paternal grandfather, Richard Corrigan, had been able  to break free of his body and go to "strange places." Matthew worked at a paper mill for several months, then disappeared for five years. A report by Internet Researcher Jiang places Corrigan at a Franciscan monastery near Rupert House in Northern Quebec. Jiang believes that Matthew received training there from the Pathfinder, Father Andre Marchand, and first crossed over during that period.

Returning to Carleton College, Matthew met and fell in love with Rachel Weiss, a sophomore majoring in English. Matthew and Rachel married one year later and went on a hiking and canoeing honeymoon in the Boundary Waters International Park. The young couple returned to Northfield and records indicate that Matthew was majoring in Religious Studies. Their future plans were changed when Father Marchand was garroted by an unknown assailant. It is assumed by Jiang that the theft of the priest's personal papers allowed the Tabula to discover that Matthew was a Traveler.

Five weeks after Marchand's murder, two assailants entered the Corrigan's off-campus apartment and killed another student couple who was staying there while their own apartment was being painted. Matthew and Rachel fled and began living off the grid. At some point – probably in Vermont – they met the German Harlequin, Thorn, and Rachel gave birth to  two sons: Michael and Gabriel Corrigan.

Thorn gave a suitcase full of cash to Matthew and he used most of the money to buy a family farm in Unityville, South Dakota. At this point Michael was a twelve-year-old and Gabriel was eight. The boys went to the local public school under false names. This peaceful life continued for four years until the farm was burned down by Tabula mercenaries. (Note: the ruins of the farm can still be seen 8.2 miles from the Unityville Elks hall on R14)

Michael, Gabriel and Rachel Corrigan escaped the destruction of the farm, but Matthew Corrigan disappeared. There are rumors that he began wandering around North America, occasionally talking to different groups. One popular story is that he obtained money for his expenses at poker tables in Las Vegas (A Traveler would have a natural advantage in such a situation). Eight years after the destruction of the farm, he appeared in Texas where his charismatic sermons inspired the formation of the New Harmony Community in Arizona. Once again, Matthew disappeared and most researchers feel that he is living somewhere in Europe.
